Childhood
Osho was born in Kuchwada in Madhya Pradesh , in Central India, 11 December 1931. He told of childhood as the period had a great influence on its growth, because these grandparents gave him the maximum freedom and showed great respect. He was left without treatment or special restrictions or any kind of education tax. As he himself said, the children, during the first seven years, are affected in a negative way from being forced to learn and to deny them the dignity: "If a child in its early years is allowed freedom, grow strong and smart enough to decide and discuss, and may self-education. "If a child receives respect, says Osho, is more obedient to their parents, if parents ignore his individuality, the child, in turn, ignore them.
The 'light' and the first community
The March 21 1953, at the age of twenty-one years after he experienced an intense period of 'Enlightenment' , that which achieves the highest degree of awareness, where "the drop merges into the ocean, the very moment the ocean pours into the drop." It is the moment of supreme understanding of the fall of all the veils that prevent clear view of reality. Convinced of the importance of what he had acquired, since he wanted to invite everyone to share his experience. Thus began traveling to India, setting up debates and conventions attracting thousands of people.
finished his studies, he taught at the Sanskrit College in Raipur and later in the sixties obtained the chair of philosophy at the University of Jabalpur. In 1969 a group of disciples established a foundation in support of his work, allowing him to leave the university work. He began to present his meditation techniques with the intention, shared by ancient traditions, to achieve greater awareness of itself, that Osho and the spiritual power of which he was the initiator may constitute in the East in what is called the "awakening" within. The September 26 of 1970 began his first disciple (or sannyasin ) during an outdoor meditation, one of the major events in which he gave lectures and led group meditation.
In 1974 he moved to Pune where he founded his ashram , spiritual and community center where the talks intensified by offering some ideas to capture the silence the source of awareness. Here the flow of visitors, especially those in the West, became unstoppable. In the late 70's ashram in Pune is home to the Center for therapy and personal growth of the world's largest, where thousands of people flock to participate in therapeutic groups and meditation classes, to listen to the speech held daily in the morning by Osho , now called Bhagwan, or participate in the darshan (meeting with Maestro) evening.
The town in Oregon
the summer of 1981 Community the experiment was transferred to America, where he was able to establish itself in the western world by founding a town in the state of ' Oregon (USA) at the ranch "Big Muddy" to Antelope. The new town is called "Rajneeshpuram (" Essence of Rajneesh "), is 65,000 acres big ben, met with great success to expand the size of a small town. After starting overwhelming, in 1985 the cultural intolerance of local residents but most of all a series of scandals that swept his secretary and some of his closest associates, Osho forced to leave the ranch. He was then arrested and imprisoned in several jails until he was expelled from the United States.
The return to Poona
returned to India and settled again Pune. Here the old ashram became the new town, which still Today, under the new name of Osho International Meditation Resort receives people who come from all over the world, faithful to his thought and practice of his teachings. The books named after him, or rather the transcripts of his speeches, hundreds, translated and read in dozens of languages, in line with the persistence of the movement. For his samadhi, the departure from the physical world, left the following inscription: "Osho. Never born, never died, has only visited this planet Earth from 11 December 1931-19 January 1990. At his death, after a long period when his health was increasingly ill and that he had spoken as a result of poisoning was taken into custody in America, the City in Pune, in which a "Multiuniversità being" with programs and courses of inner growth remained driven by a group of 21 persons appointed by him some time ago.
Teaching
His teaching was considered by some as a set of their own ideas of Eastern philosophy ( Hinduism, Jainism , Zen Buddhism , Taoism) and some parts of Western thought (psychology Jungian, humanistic psychology, the ancient Greek philosophy ), the world of the mystical Sufi and religion of Zoroaster .
Syncretism and the values \u200b\u200bproposed
L 'originality of Rajneesh in years of widespread interest in Eastern spiritual traditions is the intention of adapting the age-old concepts and practices of ancient religious cultures , mystical and psychological, to the modern Western man. From this need came the exercises introduced by Osho dynamic meditation, designed in a manner syncretic since the teachings of Yoga of Tantra, the Taoism and Zen Buddhism .
Osho says that the greatest grace that can be bestowed upon a man to be the experience of 'spiritual enlightenment . This 'light' can not be described in words, the mind is inadequate to understand an experience that goes beyond the sensitive data. A definition may be this: It is the understanding, not rational, of all things in the universe is made, but because the mind is distracted by a variety of factors can not grasp the totality. In particular, the distractions come by human activities of rational thought, as well as by emotional ties that bind us to society, and the consequent fears and inhibitions. To clarify its approach to the listeners and to give tools to its systematic method of research, Osho extracted and exhibited various philosophies from several sources. It was a very active researcher and prolific in many speeches in both Hindi and English language deals with various spiritual and religious traditions, including those of Buddha , Krishna, Guru Nanak , Jesus, Socrates , teachers Zen of Hasidism, the Sufi .
He wanted to avoid building a "belief system" because, in his words, not philosophy can fully express truth. A possible definition (although it can probably be regarded as reductive) of his thought might be to a philosophy of non-philosophy. " Speaker consumed, used his psychological acumen, the vast culture of which he has (had read more than ten thousand books), the acute memory that held him, to convey the message insisting that the only purpose for which it continued to talk was to convince the listeners to look within themselves and at the same time finally to get rid of the habits and thought patterns that have accompanied them throughout the life. And to get what should be a path of meditation .
was often mistakenly called " sex guru" after some of his speeches in the late sixties shocked the more conservative part of society. Those who had the comment of the sacred books of Tantra, were later transcribed and published under the title From Sex to superconsciousness . In his view, "for Tantra everything is holy, and nothing is profane," and each sexually repressive morality was counterproductive because "you can not transcend sex without having had a complete and conscious' .
Meditation
According to Osho, the meditation is a state that goes "beyond the mind 'total presence in which to achieve self-consciously inner silence. He insisted on the fact that meditation can not be explained or described in a comprehensive way, being an experience in which every mind and logical thinking (hence the language) are transcended. The practice of meditation does not necessarily include religious or spiritual thoughts, and you can not force it through an act of will, even if it is a discipline, but only let this state of "no mind" that is the look the thing in itself without making judgments whatsoever, it occurs spontaneously. This is the mind of the child that looks magical wonders of the world, it is the innocent mind which looks for the first time about the universe and contemplate it.
Osho was expected to be in the "meditation" is a common and natural human condition. But, he added, it is very difficult for modern man to achieve this condition using traditional techniques (such as simply sitting in silence, with his legs crossed), since he constantly suffers many "distractions" and external stimuli and the mind is so full of thoughts which run from one side that has lost the ability to stand still and focusing on their inner listening. For this reason, identified some active meditation techniques 'whose essential purpose was to calm the mind to create that space of silence and awareness needed to meditation.
Some of these preparatory exercises can be found therapies in the modern Western psychotherapy (a and Gestalt ), and consist in the alteration of breathing, in gibberish (the comment in an unknown language), in cry or laugh freely, dancing and move the body until it reached the state of catharsis, or collapse of the superstructure of mental and emotional release by the same means of an explosion. This will rid the body structure and energy of all the psycho-emotional blocks that prevent the free expression of self in everyday life.
Meditation techniques of Osho main proposals are called Active Meditations (active meditations) and include meditations: "dynamic", " kundalini", " Nadabrahma ", "Nataraj . They are based on the following assumptions: 1. the design of complete identity between the body and psychic structure (or repressed trauma internalized every emotion has a counterpart in the physical body ) 2. social conditioning and emotional man suffered from his early childhood, though much rooted in the psycho-physical structure, should be removed, which requires an act of will of the practitioner.
Osho also re-introduced some traditional techniques of meditation, reducing them to their most essential expression, abstracting them from their rituals and formalism, and retaining the parts more 'therapeutic'. Also supported the theory that the meditative state can be achieved and maintained, with sufficient practice, even through the daily actions.
lighting earthly
With continued practice of meditation without interruption, we obtain, according to Osho, enlightenment, or a state in which "you are constantly in a state of meditation ".
Osho preached not ever escape from the mundane to the spiritual life nor opposed the secular to the religious life but invited him to live in a "natural" for him and aware that coincided with the sacred. The path leading to enlightenment is therefore to define, with great presence of himself, every act of daily life, from work to married life, from sex and relationships.
This conception of spirituality, which is immersed in the everyday consciousness, and thus in stark break with the traditional view of the major religions, for which the two are separate worlds: that of spirit and that of matter.
